All In A Day’s Work

Earlier this month, Varun’s sister Vasudha was visiting us. We had so much fun!!!! One of the days, we went downtown to see the live taping of George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight as he interviewed Rémy Girard, a Quebecois actor. What an oddly Canadian experience for her. Before the show, George asked who had traveled the furthest to get there. We egged Vasudha into saying she’d come from Delhi, which is kind of true.

Vasudha: I came from India.
George: Wow! India! Can anyone beat that?
Guy Behind Us: Dubai! Eat that, India!
George: There you have it, Dubai.
Me: (Agitated whisper) What? Do either of them even KNOW geography? He’s only right if you fly over the pacific. Which, from Toronto, you wouldn’t!!

After an informative and entertaining show, we trekked home with my lovely friend, B, to make supper. Supper was to be goat curry, which I had only ever cooked once, and roti, which Vasudha has cooked a limited number of times. Amazingly, it went off without a hitch.

"Take a picture of me making roti so Mom will believe me!"

Succesfully Making Poori!

Of course, the highlight of the night was teaching B our new game: carrom. This was an awesome Christmas gift which, apparently, is a super popular game in India involving flicking wooden discs until your fingernails go numb.

Varun and Vasudha are incredible, B picked it up quickly, and I tried to figure out why the board was warped, why putting powder on it makes the discs go more quickly and how in the world I can aim a disc with my fingernails.
