Escape From the City

I highly recommend this awesome song while reading this post:

This past weekend, Varun and I went up North to “Cottage Country” with some friends for some summertime fun. Apparently, this is how Ontarians spend their short summers: sipping Molson’s on the docks of lovely cottages by “pristine” lakes.

We canoed. Being the smallest, I didn’t help portage (or paddle for that matter), I “helped” by directing (ie taking pictures and giving unsolicited advice).

This was also Varun’s first time swimming in a lake.

(Debating about the cleanliness and safety of lakes)
Me: It’s true, I think lake’s are a bit dirty. It is basically standing water.
Canadian Friend: No, our lakes are pristine. Acid rain isn’t allowed north of the border.
Varun: But what about sharks? Are there sharks or piranhas in the lake?
Canadian Friend: No, we don’t allow those north of the border either.

After much coaxing and convincing that he wouldn’t die of hypothermia, Varun took the plunge.

No sharks here

We also got to sample local ice cream. Apparently, ordering the same exact flavor of Ice Cream is not lame but a “united front”. Go team.

Switch!

I’m getting into a bad habit of posting unflattering photos of myself for comedic relief. Sigh.

Beth and Paul enjoying the water

It was a little too sunny for a good photo shoot.

Struggles.

This is life in Canada: understated beauty, quiet and hilarious friends and excellent beer. A lovely weekend was had by all.

I don’t know Beth, but somehow, some time, I ended up on her blog and I just continued reading. I enjoyed your pics from the cottage weekend, but I really enjoyed the “Amelia quotes” she put up. :p

That place looks lovely. I never had a cottage, but I miss those days of heading to friends’ cottages in the summer.
Quebec just doesn’t have the same thing. No cottage country here. :(

Now, I can’t really agree that Molson is excellent beer… but I do agree with everything else. Looks like you all had a lovely time :)

    Sharon – thanks!

Mindy – I agree. Molson isn’t the best there is. But to an American… (teasing!)

I love the icecream shot! Not a beer drinker, but on a hot summer day…… maybe.

Beth looks so much like you (from behind) that I saw that pic and was like, “Whose that guy Amelia’s getting comfy with?” before I read the caption.

I also heartily approve of the song. Excellent for the background while reading. Where did you find it?!

Even though it’s blurry, I REALLY like the wine glass picture. Super-cool..and I’m not even sure it’d have to be more focused to be enlarged and hung. It’s really cool as is. Was it possibly inspiried by my wine glass pic from CA? (2nd pic in this album: http://on.fb.me/qmLoJH )

If not, I won’t be hurt. I was just curious.
